Role Summary
We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help define and deliver Lambda's next-generation Identity and Access Management platform. You'll design and implement secure, intuitive, and scalable access control systems powering everything from early-stage startups to the most advanced AI teams in the world.
In this leadership role, you'll architect IAM systems that anticipate the needs of highly technical users and stress-test every workflow, integration, and permission model. Your charter includes designing and implementing our IAM vision: Workspaces, enterprise-grade RBAC, MFA enhancements, and a unified identity platform across all Lambda products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build intuitive, beautiful web interfaces for ML/AI cloud users
- Integrate top-tier tooling, workflows, and models from the AI space into IAM systems
- Own features end-to-end—from design through deployment to monitoring and optimization
- Lead the architecture of secure, multi-tenant SaaS IAM infrastructure
- Mentor engineers and establish best practices for authentication and authorization systems
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend or platform engineering experience, with 3+ years leading IAM or authentication/authorization initiatives
- Deep expertise in modern IAM patterns and technologies including OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, RBAC, ABAC, MFA, and SCIM
- Proven experience integrating and customizing third-party identity platforms (Auth0, Okta, WorkOS) at scale
- Strong architecture and systems design skills for distributed, multi-tenant SaaS environments
- Demonstrated track record delivering IAM features in security-sensitive, high-uptime production environments
- Solid programming experience in Python, Go, or similar languages
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Atlantis, Crossplane)
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience designing IAM systems specifically for ML/AI or cloud infrastructure products
- Background in security engineering or cryptography
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR) in IAM contexts
Work Arrangement
This position requires presence in our San Francisco or Bellevue office location 4 days per week. Lambda's designated work-from-home day is currently Tuesday.
