Job Description

About Glacier

Glacier is a Series A startup headquartered in San Francisco on a mission to solve one of the world's most pressing problems: waste and recycling. The company builds custom sorting robots designed to separate recyclables and AI-powered business analytics that enable recyclers to optimize operations and improve circularity. Major clients include CPG companies like Colgate and Amazon, as well as municipal recycling facilities. Glacier's technology has been recognized as one of TIME's Best Inventions, featured in a TIME documentary, and covered by TechCrunch, Fortune, and CBS News.

The Role

We're seeking a strong technical leader to own Glacier's Computer Vision strategy and lead our Computer Vision engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership position managing a distributed team across the US and internationally. Computer Vision is the foundation of our products and plays a pivotal role in company success. You will report directly to the co-founder and CTO.

What You'll Do

  • Own the vision, strategy, and execution of Glacier's Computer Vision roadmap
  • Lead and develop our distributed Computer Vision engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, and performance management across time zones
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and founders to align the Computer Vision roadmap with company strategy and customer needs
  • Serve as the technical lead for critical, AI-centric customer projects

Your First 90 Days

  • Deep dive into existing Computer Vision systems, models, and infrastructure
  • Understand current team composition, skill gaps, and development priorities
  • Establish clear communication with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Define and communicate the Computer Vision roadmap for the next quarter and year
  • Begin technical leadership of key customer-facing AI projects

What We're Looking For

Required Experience: You have 5+ years of software engineering experience with proven expertise in Computer Vision, deep learning, or related AI domains. You've successfully led technical teams, managed distributed engineers, and demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration skills. Your technical depth allows you to make informed architectural decisions while your leadership capabilities enable team growth and organizational alignment.

Ideal Candidate: You're passionate about impact—solving real-world problems through technology. You thrive in startup environments where you wear multiple hats and move quickly. You combine hands-on technical expertise with strategic thinking and genuine interest in developing your team members.

💰 Compensation not publicly listed. Market estimate for similar roles: from $170K, varying by experience and location.
